Is College Required for Financial Success?

When my wife and I decided to start a small business, we were mainly motivated by the desire to gain real-world experience that we could offer to our children in the future.

And the journey has become very eye-opening in a positive way. Although the hours may not be the typical 9 to 5, I do have more flexibility.

Also, there is no ceiling to how much I can earn. However, my potential success is all determined by the quality of effort I put into it.

So, why do some people not like me?

I no longer believe that attending college is required for financial success. I acknowledge that some professions, such as doctors and lawyers, do require a college degree.

However, instead of assuming that college is the next step after high school, parents should really challenge themselves and their kids and ask if college, including their major, is the right plan for the future.

So, I'm NOT advocating skipping college just to sit on your mom's couch and binge-watch Netflix. Instead, before borrowing tens of thousands of dollars in student loans, people should ask themselves what kind of return they will get on their college investment.

Will their degree allow them to get a job that makes enough to cover their future living expenses and pay back their student loan?

I know this is an uncomfortable question, but it can save someone from going into student loan debt they won't be able to afford.
