3 Things You Need To Do When Starting a Side Hustle

Maybe it’s me, but it seems like everyone has multiple hustles now.

What’s yours?

Me? I’m a software engineer, blogger, and real estate investor.

The blogging and real estate thing is still pretty recent. I got into it during the pandemic.

So when some old friends (Gina and Jim, whom I haven’t since before the pandemic) heard about my hustles, they wanted to connect and pick my brain.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear my friends were getting their feet wet in e-commerce, dropshipping, vending machines, and real estate.

Now you have to know one thing about them: I consider them super successful!

Gina and Jim had worked hard, attended the best college, and reached the highest points in their career. They bought a house at the right time, got awesome cars, and went on lovely vacations, yet here they were, wanting more.

But it’s not that they wanted more income - they wanted more freedom.

And this is something that many 9-5 grinders will face because sooner or later, the commute, the politics, the pay, and being tied to your desk will wear you down.

Here’s what we all agreed on that night:

1. Start before you’re ready. Start researching now on the hustles that fit your lifestyle and match your goals. Ask people who have experience in it and get some advice.

2. Invest a few hours a day. Yes, you’ve got a 9-5, but if you want it bad enough, you can work on your dreams from 5 pm - 9 pm.

3. Be consistent. I cannot stress this enough. Don’t let analysis paralysis keep you from building the life you want. Will Smith said it best…if you’re building a wall, don’t look at the wall; just think about each brick. Work every day to put down one brick at a time.

Keep grinding!
